Leaders Townend pushed all the way by gutsy Inn

Townend are still at the top of the Sunday League Second Division, sponsored by Ringtone Mobile Phones and Tablets, but were made to work for their 5-4 win by basement boys The Board Inn.

Trotter notched a double along with Kirtley and Pearson firing past stand-in keeper Monson but Townend’s class shone through after Corey Bell scored.

It was then all Hendon and the youthful Imeson and Galdi ran the United defence ragged, with Imeson claiming his hat-trick while Galdi added his name on the scoresheet to seal the win.

Redhouse FC blew the promotion race wide open in the First Division, sponsored by Hakitak Pet Laundry Ltd, after hammering rivals South Hylton 7-1.

New signing Stan Ogunsuyi opened his account for Redhouse with a hat-trick and Ryan Hodgson added two more.

Cahill-Taylor pulled a goal back for South Hylton but O’Neill and Southern finished them off.

Jolly Potters’ fine form continues, and they move in

to second place after a close 4-3 win over Washington FC.

Alex Ferguson hit three for the Potters and Whelan hit their fourth. Washington had Stephenson on target and Arthurs and Sinclair scored to keep them interested but Potters held on.

Ryhope CW are still in search of their first league win after losing 3-1 to Herrington CW.

Morrison, Dobinson and Herron scored to see Herrington move up the table. Gav Nesbitt hit his team’s only goal.

A last minute goal from The Victory Club’s Callum Head gave them a 3-2 win over Witherwack 3-2. Lavendar had netted two earlier for the Club. Witherwack had McQuillan and Croucher on target.

Stella United remain unbeaten at the top of the table after a 5-0 win over Sunderland North.

Charlie Hood added two and Cains, Crawford and Ben Graham also netted.
