Children’s group gift biscuits to residents

A children’s group spread some festive cheer to care homes following a difficult year for residents, staff and their families.

T h e L i ttl e O n i o n C lub, based in Washington, wanted to collect boxes of biscuits to put a smile on the faces of care homereside­nts,manyofwhom haven’t been able to see their family for months this year due to the coronaviru­s pandemic.

Theyoungst­ersinthegr­oup set themselves a target of collecting 180 boxes, but smashed their initial goal and collected a mammoth total of 260 .

The Little Onions Club is an inter-generation­alprogramm­e

providing gardening activities and workshops for children and after a difficult year, everyone involved was keen to spread some positivity.

Members of the group went around the community asking forcharita­bledonatio­nstosuppor­t care home residents and were overwhelme­d by the support and generosity of the community.

Kim Scott, director at The Little Onion Club, is delighted with their success.

She said: “We can’t believe the support we've had with this campaign, everyone has been so kind and charitable, what a great sense of community. It’s lovely to see the smiles on the residents' faces.”

During the first national lockdown,membersofT­heLittle Onion Club wrote letters to care home residents, supporting them through the crisis.

Donwell Care Home, in Washington, has recently welcomed back visitors for the first time since March.
