Driver, 90, dies after hitting a parked car
A pensioner has died after his car collided with a stationary vehicle.
The 90-year-old casualty, whose name has yet to be disclosed by Northumbria Police, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Christmas Eve collision in Brookland Road, off Hylton Road, Sunderland,
T h e fo rc e h ave n ow launched an appeal for information in connection with the “devastating incident”.
ANorthumbriaPolicestatement on Monday, read: “At 3.18pm on Thursday, December 24, we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Brookland Road.
“It is understood that a black Hyundai was joining the road from an unnamed lane and started travelling westbound on Brookland Road.
“Then, for reasons yet to be established, it has collided with a stationary vehicle that was parked on the road.
“Emergency services attended the incident where sadly the male driver, 90, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A female passenger, 88, was checked at the scene but has not believed to have suffered any injuries. Family members have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.
“Theparkedvehicle,awhite Vauxhall Agila, had no occupants inside of it at the time of the collision.
“An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision, and police are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.”
PC Nathan Crain, of the force’s motor patrols department, added: “This is a devastating incident that has sadly resulted in the death of a man.
“We are now asking anybody who was in the area at the time or who saw anything that can assist us to get in touch.”
