Readers express their opinions over the

“shocking number” of fines issued to people who have been visiting York and flouting covid rules.

Lisa Marie Jones: If people are sticking to the rules when entering other levels, then I can't see why they shouldn't. All these areas need tourism and if they don't get it then they'll close. X

Jeni Hart: Yes, but if those people travelling from areas with higher infection rates transmit the disease to the areas in tier 2 then they'll get bumped up to tier 3 or 4 then they're shut! And the money from the govt is running out. There are plenty of people in York to keep the pubs open.

Sid Bell: Sticking to the rules means not going into a lower tier.

Paul Baggett: I mean not that I condone it at all but the government certainly set the precedent when they never gave Cummings a fine, so why is it ok for a government advisor but not the average person? It's the government's own fault. Lead by example etc etc
