Cats fans deliver their verdict on big L1 question as cases rise

-

With a host of fixtures postponed due to COVID outbreaks over the festive period, the debate rages on as to whether the League One season should continue or be paused.

A dozen fixtures on December 26 and 29 have been postponed and case numbers in the division continue to rise.

While some clubs and medical personnel have called for a circuit-breaker stoppage, others are keen to see the season continue.

And Sunderland fans have now had their say on the debate – after we asked supporters on our Sunderland Echo SAFC Facebook page whether a pause in the season would be a good idea.

Here’s what fans had to say: Denise Sheraton said: “There should be no football being played anyway especially the way it is and now cases are increasing by an alarming amount even higher than April so it should be paused for now”

Stu Wall commented: “The season should be completed. EFL have a responsibility to ensure testing is completed as per standards in the premiership. If the season needs to be extended to enable completion of the fixtures so be it.”

Stephen Hubber posted: “I think that League One will be forced to stop through attrition. It may reach the point where only a handful of clubs remain Covid-19 free at any one time”

Ruth Hoggin added: “Really shouldn’t have started without the fans”

Colin Sanderson agreed, saying: “Should not be playing in the first place without the fans able to attend. Football is for the fans.”
