Runners pound the streets for charities
T wo g roup s o f E a s t Du r - ham runners have picked up the pace to raise more than £13,000 for good causes this year.
Vane Tempest Running Club and Seaham Aspiring Ladies running group have supported a wide range of organisations throughout the year – including local food banks and cancer charities.
The funds, helping 18 charities, were raised from virtual events planned by the groups, which enabled the members to run solo or in smaller groups when Coronavirus restrictions allowed.
Running events included the Great Seaham Run – a replacement for The Great North Run, a 30-day mileage challenge, a virtual 5km run, Red January, Race For Life and a 100-mile a month challenge.
A year of fund-raising efforts culminated in two Christmas fun runs and a delivery of food and toys to the Dawdon Youth and Community Centre Foodbank in Seaham.
Also, the two groups of runners helped to raise money for St Mary Magdelene Foodbank, St Hild and St Helens Christian FellowshipFoodbank,RaceFor Life, MIND, Alzheimer's Society, The Fire Fighters Charity, Cancer Research, Movember, St Benedict’s Hospice, Tabitha’s Toys,Parkinson’sUK,Wearside Women in Need, RNLI, Great
NorthAirAmbulance,Macmillan Cancer Support, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity and Maggies’ cancer care centres.
Sally Hall, founder of The Vane Tempest Running Club and run leader of Seaham Aspiring Ladies, said: “As the run leader, I am proud beyond words at their achievements.
