End in sight for campus building

-

University bosses have lodged plans to demolish an old teaching building at a city centre campus site.

The Johnson Building is a two-storey pre-fabricated building and sits near the University of Sunderland’s Design Centre on its City Campus, Chester Road. Earlier in December, a ‘prior approval’ application was lodged with Sunderland City Council to remove it. According to planning documents, it has been in place for more than 25 years and was originally approved as a teaching facility. A covering letter submitted on behalf of the university states the building is “no longer required to service students or staff.”

Subject to approval, the work is expected to start on February 1.
