Boss rules out exit for Sunderland kid Embleton
Lee Johnson has ruled out the prospect of Elliot Embleton leaving Sunderland this month.
Embleton endured a frustrating start to the season due to injury, and has had limited gametime since Johnson's arrival at the club.
T h at h a d l e d t o s o m e s p e c u l at i o n t h at w i t h s i x months left on his current c o ntrac t , th e 2 1 -yea r - o l d could be a potential outgoing in the January window.
But the Sunderland head coach says the former England youth international has made a big impression on the training pitch, and that a chance to impress is nigh.
"I rea l l y l i ke E l l i ot , h e's b e e n e xc e l l e nt ," J o h n s o n said.
"He's probably been the m o s t h a rd - d o n e by i n my team selections at the moment.
"H e w i l l d e f i n i te l y get the chance, if not on Saturday then definitely on Tuesday, to go and show what he is about.
"If I've had ten training sessions so far here, let's say, I reckon he's been in the top three trainers at least four or five times.
"It wasn't a great start in terms of a first impression, but since then he's made a really good impression.
"He's knuckled down and showed his quality."
Johnson is, however, considering a loan move for Dan Neil this month.
"I t's t h e o n e s l i k e D a n Neil who you look at, who I really like, but you look at h i s c h a n c e s , wh ic h m i g ht be limited between now and the end of the season, and that becomes a possibility," Johnson said.
"Only for our long-term future, and his, because he's a player I like."
