Cat rescued after it was trapped on wire

An “absolutely beautiful” cat has been rescued after its wounded back legs became trapped in sharp nylon twine.

RSPCA officers were alerted by a passer-by to the animal’s plight in Aspley Close, in Sunderland, and took him to a vets where the twine, which had cut into his legs, was removed.

Inspector TerriAnn Fannon said: “I’ve no idea how this poor cat endedup so tang led but thankfully he wasn’t badly injured.

"He was very stressed and hissed a lot so I thought he may be a feral cat but after some TLC he has slowly started to become more friendly .”

The adult male cat, who has now been named Bagheera, is in the care of the charity’ s Sunderland, Hartlepool and South Tyneside branch.

Alex Stafford, animal welfare rehoming co-ordinator at the branch, said :“He is still really scared, but we can tell he is grateful for his comfy, warm bed and fresh food and water.

"He will not leave his bed for anything.

“He has a long way to go in terms of socialisation, but we will be giving him plenty of TLC and patience to get him into his perfect forever home when the time comes.

"He is an absolutely beautiful cat.”

The rescue took place on Tuesday, January 5, with the passer-by’s call among 44,000 made to the RSPCA about potential neglect, cruelty and suffering cases this winter alone.
