Driver was threatened with axe


A man has been arrested after police swooped on Easington Lane after a deliver driver was threatened with an axe.

Pictures shared on social media show a large armed police presence in the area following reports a delivery driver was threatened by am an wielding an axe at an address.

Nobody was injured in the incident, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were first called to the incident in Ea sing ton Lane at 11am on Wednesday, where a delivery driver had been threatened at an address.

Northumbri­a Police have now confirmed a 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A force spokespers­on said: “Officers were deployed to the scene and a 29-year-old man has been arrested.”
