Man appears in court over attack in house
A man has been remanded in custody by a court after a man was left with a series of wounds in a house attack.
Durham Constabulary and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called to Third Street in Horden in the early hours of Thursday.
A 35-year-old man was found lying on the floor with several lacerations and puncture wounds when officers were called to the property at 1.30am.
He was taken to the James Cook University Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.
The force confirmed it had charged a 34-year-old man of no fixed abode, with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court to face the allegation and another of possession of a knife or blade, also on the same date.
The 34-year-old was remanded in custody until his next appearance, which will before Durham Crown Court on Friday, February 12.
Investigations into the disturbance are ongoing, with anyone with information asked to call detectives.
Detective Sergeant David Airey, of Peterlee CID, said: “This was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.
"I'd like to thank the community and those who helped the attending officers at the scene.
"It's thanks to you that the victim is now in a stable condition."
