Over 80s urged to call GP to have vaccination

NHS Sunderland are urging residents in Sunderland aged 80 and over to get in touch with their GP if they have not yet received an invitation for the coronavirus vaccine.

Residents aged 80 and over are being urged to contact their GP practice if they have still not received the first dose of a covid vaccine yet.

A social media post from the Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have said that GP practices will be able to make an appointment if you have not yet been contacted about a jab.

The CCG have also asked for patience from those who are not in the top category for the Ccovid jab – stating that people will be contacted when it is their turn.

The post said: “If you are over 80 years old, live in Sunderland and have not yet had or been contacted to have a first dose of covid vaccine yet, please contact your GP practice who will book an appointment for you.

“If you are not in this category, it is important that you continue to wait to be contacted.

"Please do not contact your GP.”

On Friday, January 15, Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised vaccination teams in Sunderland when he revealed during a Downing Street press conference that more than 80% of care home residents on Wearside have received the jab.

Across the country, almost 45% of over 80s and almost 40% of care home residents have now been vaccinated – with the number of people in the UK to have been given a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine is 3,234,946 as of January 14.
