City Greggs staff test positive for coronavirus
Several members of staff at the Park Lane Greggs in Sunderland have tested positive for Covid-19 and are self-isolating.
A small number of Greggs employees at the Park Lane branch have tested positive for coronavirus and are selfisolating at home.
The shop, located in the Park Lane bus station underwent a full clean down and remains open.
Greggs has remained open during the national lockdown for takeout and safety measures in shops are in place in accordance with Government guidelines.
A Greggs spokesperson said: “A small number of colleagues have tested positive for Covid-19 at our shop in Park Lane, Sunderland and are now self-isolating.
"We have robust covidsecure measures in place across all our sites and have undertaken a full cleaning of the shop. The shop remains open.”
The news comes after the Newcastle-based group said total sales for the year slumped by nearly a third – 31% – to £811 million due to the pandemic.
But the company said they will continue its delivery tieup with Just Eat and still hopes to open around 100 new stores, on a net basis, over the year ahead.
It said Covid-19 restrictions, which have seen England placed in a nationwide lockdown for the third time, will keep profits under pressure for another year at least.
In a Coronavirus update on their website, Greggs said all stores “follow Government guidelines and will only operate in a way that is safe to do so for both colleagues and customers.”
The Park Lane branch remains open to customers.
