Tax help is offered to thousands

Thousands of taxpayers are being offered the chance to pay up in instalments.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has set up an online payment plan for the area's 24,000 self-assessment taxpayers to manage their tax liabilities in up to 12 monthly payments, Nationally, over 25,000 self assessment customers have set up such payments – a total of £69million.

KarlKhan,HMRC’sinterim director general for customer services, said: “We know the past year has been tough for many businesses and self-employed people, which is why we’re helping them spread the costoftheirtaxbillintomonthly payments. Self Assessment customers can use the selfserve Time to Pay facility for amounts up to £30,000 and almost 25,000 customers are benefiting from the service.”
