Win sweet treat from Kets ’n’ Pop

Sweet tooths are in for a treat with this giveaway from a new Sunderland business.

Noticing a gap in the market for dedicated sweet shops in the area, Kets ‘n’ Pop opened its doors in Brandling Street, Roker, in July 2020, following the first lockdown.

It’s a difficult time to open any business, especially when new ventures aren’t eligible for the Government grants, however, Kets ‘n’ Pop is already enjoying the sweet smell of success thanks to its huge range of confectionery and treat boxes.

At the helm of the store is owner Catherine Forsyth who sells hundreds of treat boxes a week, of various sizes, which can be bought in-store or ordered for delivery through its social media pages.

Speaking about how the venture came about, Catherine said: “I used to go to sweet shops when I was younger and always had happy memories of them.

"I had the idea of opening one for a couple of years and actually got the keys in February.

"Then lockdown 1 hit, so I couldn’t get to B&Q to renovate or to the wholesalers for stock. Eventually, we could open in July, just after the first lockdown.

"It has been difficult, but our customers have really kept us going, they’re the ones who’ve kept us open.

"We get older customers who come in for traditional sweets like black bullets, while the kids like any of the jelly sweets.”

As it sells food, Kets ‘n’ Pop is able to remain open for click & collect or deliveries, with opening hours of Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 6pm and Saturdays from 9.30am to 5pm.
