Green car park is a welcome addition
We are desperate to see the green shoots of recovery in our city … and a new project aims to nurture that vision quite literally.
Plans for a 650-space multi-storey car park at Sunderland’s Farringdon Row development feature not just a functional building, but incorporates a ‘living wall’ that catches the eye and no doubt helps the environment.
Rather than having purpose built landscaped areas nearby, this car park embraces the greenery.
The sides of the building will see plant life growing.
It’s a visually striking project that, if given the goahead, will join a list of new developments helping to transform the city skyline.
As we reveal today, the new car park will be ideally situated to accommodate the increasing number of people living, working and visiting the area.
Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, sees it as another innovative project of which the people of Sunderland should welcome.
He said: “Sunderland’s skyline has been transformed over the past 12 months with the opening of The Beam and work continuing apace on City Hall and – as work on two new office buildings and the Holiday Inn moves forward – it’s becoming clear for all to see just how much of a transformational impact this development is having on the city.”
With the promise of 10,000 jobs and thousands of new homes in the wider Riverside Sunderland development it’s hard not to share his enthusiasm. Let’s hope this green project gets the green light pronto!
