Shoplifter warned by court judge
A woman caught stealing more than £200 of booze and other goods was warned by a judge to not see her sentence as a let-off.
Shelly Newton, 38, has received a conditional discharge after she was caught swiping £202ofitemsfromSainsbury’s supermarket, in Silksworth Lane,Sunderland,onTuesday, November 24, 2020.
Newton was told by District Judge Kathryn Meek at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court not to see her sentence as a let-off and warned her it was time she stopped offending.
The court heard that Newton had had pressure put upon her to steal by another person.
Newton, of Westmorland Street, Wallsend, who owes the court £1,300 from previous offending, pleaded guilty to shop theft .
