Six patients being treated at Sunderland’s NHS trust have sadly died after testing positive for Covid-19.

NHS England confirmed yesterday that a further 875 people, who tested positive for the CCovid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 67,046.

Patients were aged between 33 and 101 years old. All except 21 (aged 52 to 93 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Deaths are recorded as Covid-19-related where a person has died within 28 days of a positive test.

Across the UK on Monday, it was announced that 22,195 more people have tested positive for coronaviru­s, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 3,669,658, and yesterday it was disclosed the death toll had passed 100,000.

Sunderland cases of coronaviru­s: 66 new cases on Monday; Total number of cases since March: 17,811.

Sunderland weekly case rate: For seven days up to January 20 - 380.3 per 100,000 people; Total number of cases recorded in seven days up to January 20 – 1,056.

Data for the most recent five days has been excluded as it is incomplete and may not reflect the true number of cases.

Hospital admissions: Currently in hospital: 234; Currently on ventilatio­n: 15; Total admissions: 2,795.
