Vokins: I’m here to help the Cats win promotion
Jake Vokins has pledged to play his part in helping Sunderland to promotion this season.
The Southampton youngster has penned a loan move to the Stadium of Light, and will spend the remainder of the campaign on Wearside.
It is the first time the Oxford-born defender had headed out on loan during his career, although he has tasted senior football at St Mary’s.
And the 20-year-old says he is relishing the chance to play regular football during his stint on Wearside, while helping the side with their promotion push.
Vokins has also offered fans an insight into what they can expect from him in the coming weeks.
“I want to come here and play games, and help the team get promoted this season,” he said, speaking to safc.com.
"I feel I can bring my qualities to the team.
"I’m good on the ball and I can deliver crosses, so hopefully that allows the team to score more goals.
"It’s a big club and I can’t wait to get started.”
Vokins is set to challenge Callum McFadzean for a starting spot in the side, with Denver Hume still on the sidelines.
Southampton academy graduate Vokins is head coach Lee Johnson’s second signing of the winter transfer window – after Carl Winchester – and is unlikely to be the last, with Rangers wideman Jordan Jones lined up for a move.
Johnson could also swoop for a striker in the final days before the deadline, as he bids to reshape his squad before the final months of the campaign.
