Report of two people in water

Sunderland RNLI lifeboat and coastguard crews were scrambled to reports of two people in the water at the Marina on Friday afternoon.

Two people, who were notwearing­lifejacket­s,had ended up in the water after the tender they were using to get to the shore from a boat in Sunderland Marina sank at about 4.50pm.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “On our arrivalbot­hcasualtie­swere out of the water, working with the lifeboat crew we started immediate casualty care as they had both been in the freezing temperatur­es for some time.

“The two casualties had ended up in the water after using a tender to get to shore from a boat, neither had a life jacket and the tender had sank.

“The casualties refused any further treatment and went on their way.”
