STORY:

The UK is one of only five countries around the world which has surpassed 100,000 deaths. The others are Brazil, the US, India and Mexico. Around Europe, countries which once seemed in far greater danger of catastrophic fatalities now fall far below the UK in terms of fatalities, due to a number of factors.

Anthony Ruddick: One thing that is very rarely mentioned in statistics is the deaths/population/ per square kilometre. Is it any coincidence that 3 of the most densely populated countries in Europe, Belgium, Netherlands and the UK are the ones with highest death rates.

David Cowley: Death rates in care homes have trebled in a fortnight. That cannot be explained by people walking along a beach. Half the country aren't breaking the rules! Government want us to blame each other rather than focus on them.

Hadleigh Hamilton:

Because we have such a good health system handing out life prolonging and life saving drugs which you wouldn't get in other countries unless you paid the going rate then a virus comes along which takes the medically vulnerable over the edge and kills them. Care homes idea of lockdown is no visitors but the 40-70 resident are still interacting with each other, they are not confined to their rooms so if the virus got in it goes round like wild fire . And this if you die within 18 days of a positive test rubbish. If you have covid you only have to isolate for 10-14 days so how can you have it at 28 days, you could have been knocked over in a car accident or been shot by a robber but if you had covid 25 days ago you are logged as covid death.

Rhiannon Hood: Look everyone this is not a national issue it's global one and it needs global leadership. Can all our politicians please register that, get it joined up and overawe us with their brilliance. Please.

Barry Hull: Half the country are not doing what they get told, that’s why are deaths are so high.

Kathy Haq: Maybe the Government should rent all of those out-of-use ferries and cruise ships and put those deliberately flouting the rules on to them and leave them out in the North Sea to keep the rest of us safe. Just a thought.

Gary Thompson: It's probably the only country that calls all deaths within 28 days of a positive test, a covid death.
