Watford are keen on loan for Matty, report says
Watford are targeting a loan swoop for Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff, accoring to a report.
It could prove a busy final day for Newcastle in the transfer market, with a number of possible ins and outs ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.
And reports down south suggest Watford are targeting amoveforLongstaff.Theyhave previously been credited with a strong interest in the midfielder.
The Watford Observer report: “The Hornets have rekindled their interest in the 20-year-old, who they considered making a move for last summer before the player signed a new deal on Tyneside.
“While Newcastle are open to the possibility of Longstaff heading out temporarily, it is understood they first want to bring in one, or possibly even two, of their own loan targets before they continue any discussions.”
Meanwhile, Jamaal Lascelles is facing a spell on the sidelines – after only recently returning from Covid-19.
Lascelles limped out of Saturday's2-0winoverEvertonat Goodison Park. The club's captain had returned earlier this month after being laid low by coronavirus late last year.
“He’s done his hamstring,” said head coach Steve Bruce. “We’ve found that with some of the lads that have had Covid. They’ve not just been struggling with fatigue, but also muscle-wise. Feddy Fernandez was the same, (Javier) Manquillo was the same, and now Jamaal Lascelles is the same too.
“We have been struggling, butofcoursethere’snorealanswers with this complicated virus. We’ll see how he is once things settle down, but I’d imagine he’ll be out for a number of weeks now.”
