Rotarians help children with home learning

-

A community group is supporting school children working from home during the coronavirus lockdown after donating iPads and laptops to help pupils at a primary school.

The Rotary Club of Washington put out a call to the community for technology that would be able to help pupils with home learning while schools remain closed, and was able to donate a number of iPads and laptops to St

Joseph’s RC Primary School.

The equipment will be used to help support pupils who do not have what they need at home at home while the country remains in a nationwide lockdown.

During the lockdown, The Rotary Club of Washington is doing all it can to support all members of the community.

Rotarian Neil McOnie, said: “Listening to the news, we know the difficulty young kids are having with home learning and especially the ones who don’t have what they need in the house. We put a call out and got in touch with St Joseph’s and they were over the moon to get some vital help.”

Schools could remain closed after February halfterm with an announcement from Education Secretary Gavin Williamson expected later this week.

The Rotary Club of Washington are continuing to support the community through the pandemic and anyone interested in donating unwanted iPads and laptops can do so at The Cross Keys in Washington, every Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 4pm and 6pm.

Last month, the group stressed how important it is to support one another through these difficult times and donated over £1,500 to a number of community causes throughout Washington.
