Grandma’s words of comfort to us all
If Brenda can wait, we can all wait!
Grandma Brenda Naisby, 79, has opened her heart to the Echo today in her diary of life in lockdown to reveal she would love to fly off on holiday abroad and dine in a fancy restaurant.
But, even after getting her first dose of the Covid vaccine, she tells us she understands that there’s still a long way to go before we’re out of this pandemic.
Her thoughts wholly understandable and, no doubt, shared by the majority in our community. Yes, we’d love to throw off the shackles and do what we love, but our first thought must be to follow the rules to ensure we protect everyone around us.
Brenda is full of praise for the NHS workers who are helping the sick and organising the vaccination programme. But had this message to share on dealing with the pandemic.
She said: “Just because I’ve received the first dose of the vaccine though, my life hasn’t changed. I still realise how important it is to stick to the rules until we are all fully vaccinated.
“We still must act like we have the virus and keep any social contact to a minimum, wear our masks wherever we go and regularly sanitise our hands.”
Brenda says she’d love to travel to the Caribbean with her daughter and grandchildren, but understands that safety must come first.
“I know I’ll get to do that again one day,” she says,
“it’s just a matter of time.”
We can’t wait for the day she, and all of us, can enjoy ‘normal’ life again. In the meantime, if Brenda can wait, we can all wait...
