Pointless comparisons

-

In his letter of January 30 Ged Taylor returns to comparisons in COVID-19 death tolls.

This despite statisticians repeatedly say it is pointless to do comparisons of deaths in different countries until the worst is over and differing means of counting have been reconciled.

All statisticians say the final figures must be based on density of populations.

In Italy, for instance, ISTAT, Italy's equivalent of our Office for National Statistics stated that Italy's Covid-19 deaths were much higher than reported and thousands of deaths were unaccounted for.

The writer then goes on to attack the Government over claims that vaccines destined for the North East are being redirected to other areas.

This despite the Government Minister Nadhim Zahawi saying the allocation is 13% and is not changing.

There is an issue with supply and demand. If the total delivered by the manufacturer reduced the number of doses will reduce but not because of them being redirected.

Perhaps Ged Taylor would like to comment on his Labour leader’s request to redirect vaccines away from the more vulnerable over 65s group.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has advised against the first phase being altered.

Senior Labour figure, Mark Drakeford criticised Sir Keir Starmer's plan saying "we would like as many people as possible vaccinated but it has to be a sense of priority".

Then we have Ged Taylor's precious EU.

What a dangerous shambles there. The EU tried to redirect vaccines ordered under contract and destined for the UK, to cover up their complete ineptitude in delaying approving and ordering the vaccines.

They even put in place a plan to virtually close the Irish border to stop vaccines reaching the UK via the Republic of Ireland.

Thankfully worldwide outrage stopped them in their tracks.
