-

An apprentice at a Wearsidebased building services firm has underlined the company’s training policy – with distinction.

Adam Kennedy, 21, a junior mechanical engineering project manager at HLA Services in Boldon, was awarded a distinction after competing a two-year part time Building Services Engineering

Degree at Northumbria University.

Adam joined the 100-plus team as an apprentice in 2018.

He is one of a number of employees who is furthering his career, thanks to the firm’s commitment to staff progression.

Adam said: “When I joined the company as an apprentice HLA Services offered progression routes within its specialist divisions and I jumped at the opportunity.

“Within just under two years, fresh out of college as an apprentice, I am now a qualified junior mechanical engineering project manager, working as part of a team of six in the mechanical services division.

“Whilst studying for the foundation degree, I was able to combine classroom learning with live projects and had experts in the office if I needed extra advice."

HLA Services director, Paul Smith, said: “We were very keen for Adam to advance his learning and progress further in his career.

“Many of the team began as apprentices and we are keen to develop our workforce for the future.

“We take great pride in the team and have employees who have worked with us for 15 years – from being teenage apprentices to supervising the next generation of workers. It is very rewarding.”
