McCarthy looking to build on first win

-

Former Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy is hoping he can build on his first victory in charge of Cardiff as they head to South Yorkshire to face Rotherham tonight.

The Bluebirds enjoyed a 2-0 triumph over Bristol City on Saturday, McCarthy's first win since being appointed on January 22.

His first two matches in charge after replacing Neil Harris ended in draws, leaving McCarthy with an unbeaten spell that he is striving to maintain.

"It will be a really tough game," he told the club website.

"We know what to expect going up there. I fully expect it to be a really hard one, but we'll be ready for it."

Rotherham won their last two games, defeating both Preston and Derby, and in doing so have pulled themselves out the relegation zone.

"They've got momentum, we're going up to their place and it's always a tough game at Rotherham," McCarthy continued.

"But we're unbeaten in three games and just won our first game in a long time, so I'm sure we can go up there with a bit of momentum as well.

"Now we've got to do that every week ... I think that's the level you've got to be at to win games in this league.

"I think when you've won away from home, you're allowed to enjoy it and have a smile on your face, but that all changed on Sunday because we were back out preparing for Rotherham."

Also tonight, the Championship's bottom two square off at Hillsborough in South Yorkshire as Sheffield Wednesday host Wycombe, who are nine points adrift of their opponents.
