Steph Everett is encouraging parents to educate their children on calling the emergency services after her sixyear-old daughter Chloe saved her life.

During the early hours of Wednesday, January 6, mum-of-three Steph Everett from Ashbrooke woke up having a severe asthma attack – which prompted her daughter Chloe, six, to call an ambulance to save her mum’s life.

Chloe was able to provide the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) with all the details of Steph’s condition, plus give them the address and look after her brother and sister while paramedics tended to her mum.

Thanks to her efforts, little lifesaver Chloe has received a letter of thanks from the NEAS and Steph is now encouraging parents to role play emergency scenarios with their children.

The 28-year-old said: “Being a single parent, I’ve role-played scenarios with Chloe where she would need to ring the police, for example, if an intruder was in the house, but never for a medical emergency so this was all her own instincts.

"I’ve never had an asthma attack like it.

"But Chloe was able to be in control of the situation.

"I just can’t put into words how proud of her I am.

"Even the paramedics said they have never seen a child so calm.

"I think it is really important for parents to role play scenarios with their children.

"Especially with the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I wouldn’t like to think about what could have happened if Chloe didn’t know what to do.”

Steph has said that she has faced criticism from other parents for giving her daughter her own phone, however, she believes that it was the right thing to do.

She added: “Even though she is only six-years-old, Chloe has her own phone for situations exactly like this.

"A lot of parents have criticised me for giving her a phone.

"But it is fair to say that she has saved my life with that phone.

"The paramedics said that if there had been any more of a delay, I might not be here today.

"Chloe was then able to use the phone to ring my sister to come and look after them while I was rushed to hospital.”
