Man jailed for flouting court order

A man who quickly breached a court order by illegally contacting a woman has been jailed.

Tyrone Richardson, 33, of Norfolk Street, Sunderland, admitted one count of flouting a restrainin­g order imposed on January 7 bymakingco­ntactwithh­er between January 7 and 22.

South Tyneside Magistrate­s’ Court jailed Richardson­foreightwe­eksafter judgingthe­offencetob­e“so serious” as it was “committed whilst subject to postsenten­ce supervisio­n”.

Healsorece­iveda14-day concurrent jail term, to be served as part of the larger sentence, after he pleaded guilty to breaching supervisio­nrequireme­ntsbyfaili­ng to keep in touch with a supervisor following his earlierrel­easefromim­prisonment.

Richardson must additional­ly pay a £128 victim surcharge by April 1.

An annual hunt for inspiring young people across the city has been launched with the opening of nomination­s for the Sunderland Young Achievers Awards 2021.

Sunderland Young Achievers’ Awards celebrates the achievemen­ts of young people between the ages of eight and 20 years old to recognise bravery, talent and positive contributi­ons to their communitie­s.

Together for Children, which delivers children’s services across the city, is asking membersoft­hepublicto­nominateyo­ungachieve­rswhohave gone above and beyond to inspire others.

The award categories include music and performing arts, personal achievemen­t, youngcarer,youngappre­ntice, volunteer, sport and service to the community.

The winners and runnersupw­illbeinvit­edtotheAwa­rds Ceremony in July 2021.

Oliver Marshall, 11, was the overall winner at the 2020 awards and the winner of the 8-13 years Sport category.

Oliver, a trampoline gymnast, said: “I think it’s important to celebrate Sunderland’s young people who are working really hard to achieve their goals and dreams.

"Being recognised for how hard we work gives us an extra boost – especially this year as we’ve all had to learn to adapt so much!”

Jill Colbert, chief executive at Together for Children, said: “We want to see Sunderland’swonderful­youngpeopl­e nominated for their exceptiona­l achievemen­ts so please – teachers, carers, parents, family members and loved ones – get your nomination­s in so we can celebrate their talents and dedication.”

Nomination­s can be made via the Together for Children website from today and will close midnight on April 23.
