Man jailed for flouting court order
A man who quickly breached a court order by illegally contacting a woman has been jailed.
Tyrone Richardson, 33, of Norfolk Street, Sunderland, admitted one count of flouting a restraining order imposed on January 7 bymakingcontactwithher between January 7 and 22.
South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court jailed Richardsonforeightweeksafter judgingtheoffencetobe“so serious” as it was “committed whilst subject to postsentence supervision”.
Healsoreceiveda14-day concurrent jail term, to be served as part of the larger sentence, after he pleaded guilty to breaching supervisionrequirementsbyfailing to keep in touch with a supervisor following his earlierreleasefromimprisonment.
Richardson must additionally pay a £128 victim surcharge by April 1.
An annual hunt for inspiring young people across the city has been launched with the opening of nominations for the Sunderland Young Achievers Awards 2021.
Sunderland Young Achievers’ Awards celebrates the achievements of young people between the ages of eight and 20 years old to recognise bravery, talent and positive contributions to their communities.
Together for Children, which delivers children’s services across the city, is asking membersofthepublictonominateyoungachieverswhohave gone above and beyond to inspire others.
The award categories include music and performing arts, personal achievement, youngcarer,youngapprentice, volunteer, sport and service to the community.
The winners and runnersupwillbeinvitedtotheAwards Ceremony in July 2021.
Oliver Marshall, 11, was the overall winner at the 2020 awards and the winner of the 8-13 years Sport category.
Oliver, a trampoline gymnast, said: “I think it’s important to celebrate Sunderland’s young people who are working really hard to achieve their goals and dreams.
"Being recognised for how hard we work gives us an extra boost – especially this year as we’ve all had to learn to adapt so much!”
Jill Colbert, chief executive at Together for Children, said: “We want to see Sunderland’swonderfulyoungpeople nominated for their exceptional achievements so please – teachers, carers, parents, family members and loved ones – get your nominations in so we can celebrate their talents and dedication.”
Nominations can be made via the Together for Children website from today and will close midnight on April 23.
