Scarlett adds her voice to laptop campaign

-

TV star Scarlett Moffatt has encouraged residents to donate laptops for children across the North East.

The 2016 I’m A Celebrity winner has thrown her support behind the ‘Donate Digital’ service established by Sunderland-based IT recycling company Rebuyer.

She recently encouraged her two million Instagram followers to back the campaign, while fellow TV star Charlotte Crosby has also supported the project on her social media feed. Ant and Dec recently tweeted their support as well.

The campaign enables individuals and organisations to donate redundant laptops, tablets and PCs, which are then securely data wiped, restored and distributed to children who do not have any computer equipment.

This ensures that they can take part in online learning while lockdown restrictions remain in place.

In a video on Instagram Stories, Scarlett said: “Right now, there are so many children whose education is suffering and it really will be detrimental to their future because they haven’t got the laptops and tablets to be able to do the work that schools need them to do right now.

“So Rebuyer has set up the Donate Digital campaign where you can donate your old laptops and tablets to them, and they’ll pass them on to kids who need them.

“Even if there’s an old battery that doesn’t work or no charger, then they’re working to refurbish them to pass on, which I just think is amazing.”

According to new analysis from the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, at least 55,000 families in the North East do not have access to a laptop, tablet or desktop computer.
