Seven more deaths and 60 new Covid cases

A further seven patients have died at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust after testing positive for Covid-19.

NHS England confirmed yesterday that a further 474 people who tested positive for coronaviru­s have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 79,593.

Patients were aged between 26 and 99. All except 17 (aged 38 to 93) had known underlying health conditions.

Deaths are recorded as Covid-19 related where a person has died within 28 days of a positive test.

Across the UK on Monday, it was announced that 9,765 more people have tested positive for coronaviru­s, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 4,047,843.

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust announced seven Covid-related deaths yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths at the trust to 871, according to data released by NHS England.

In Sunderland, 60 new cases were recorded.

The total number of cases since March now stands at 20,139, according to data from Public Health England.

Sunderland’s weekly case rate is 249.5 per 100,000 people.

The total number of cases recorded in seven days up to February 10 is 693.

Data for the most recent five days has been excluded as it is incomplete and may not reflect the true number of cases.

There are currently 180 Covid patients in hospital, 13 of them on ventilatio­n.

The total hospital admissions is now 3,186, based on the latest available informatio­n.
