Three more die after positive virus tests

Three more people have died in Sunderland’s hospital trust after testing positive for coronaviru­s.

NHS England confirmed yesterday that a further 315 people who tested positive for coronaviru­s have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 80,739.

Patients were aged between 13 and 103.

All except 26 (aged 13 to 96) had known underlying health conditions.

Deaths are recorded as Covid-19 related where a person has died within 28 days of a positive test.

Across the UK on Thursday, it was announced that 12,057 more people have tested positive for coronaviru­s, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 4,083,242.

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust announced three further Covid-related deaths yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths at the trust to 883, according to data released by NHS England.

Sunderland recorded 73 new cases on Thursday.

The total number of cases since March is now 20,387, according to data from Public Health England.

Sunderland’s weekly case rate is 212.1 per 100,000 people.

The total number of cases recorded in seven days up to February 13 is 589.

Data for the most recent five days has been excluded as it is incomplete and may not reflect the true number of cases.

There are currently 180 Covid patients in hospital, 13 of them on ventilatio­n.

The total admissions is 3,186, based on the latest available informatio­n.
