There’s no excuse for dumping rubbish
As disappointing and infuriating as it may be, if your bin doesn’t get emptied that’s no excuse to dump your waste elsewhere.
There are suggestions that the dumping of piles of rubbish in South Hylton was linked to delays in council bin collections.
Treacherous weather caused problems across the city, but that’s no excuse to discard waste in our community.
As our photographs show, more than 20 bags of rubbish were dumped at The Golden Lion car park.
There have been a number of flytipping incidents reported in the Echo recently, with the majority resulting in a fine for the offenders. In this case, the council is calling for information that would, hopefully, see fines dished out.
Cllr Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland
City Council told us: “Flytipping is irresponsible, illegal, and a blight on Sunderland’s neighbourhoods. Anyone who finds or witnesses incidents of fly-tipping should report it immediately here or by calling 0191 520 5550. One of the main things to come out of our recent Let’s Talk consultations is that residents want to see more enforcement for this type of anti-social behaviour and the council has increased its resources on taking action against these offenders.”
While the city council may want to review its adverse weather strategy when it comes to bin collections, there is still no excuse for blighting our community with dumped rubbish. If you have any information, report it immediately. Don’t letter the litter louts win the day.
