Government not to blame

-

After reading Pam Wortley’s letter in the Echo stating this covid catastrophe is the product of government failures, it made me wonder how it would have been if Jeremy Corbyn or Keir Starmer were the government leaders; would they have produced the magic antidote to rid us of Covid?

I also thought back to September when Andy Burnham and other Labour leaders were protesting against the tier system and further lockdowns.

I dread to think what the situation would be if they had been the government in power.

I find it interesting

Pam Wortley never acknowledged the quick thinking of the government and their medical advisors in pre-ordering vaccines months ago, the first government in the world to act so quickly and decisive which then enabled quick planning and administration of the vaccines by alliance groups throughout the country, arranging appointments and administering the vaccines to the millions, which was magnificent.

Why couldn’t credit be given where it is due, regardless of who we politically support?

We who have worked in the NHS know quick and decisive thinking is part of a good outcome and possible cure to many illnesses.

Yes the government has made errors and so has every government; all have struggled with this pandemic, oh, apart from China whose lives in Wuhan are back to normal!

New Zealand is a country with approximately five million residents, here in the UK there are nearly 70 million living in a country half the size of New Zealand.

Australia is a huge country, again with less residents than UK.

So who is to blame over the years for so many people living here? Could this not be part of the problem of covid spreading so quickly?

What about the people who do not believe Covid exists or those who will not stick to the lockdown rules?

A vast majority of us have made sacrifices throughout this past year, out of a sense of collective responsibility.

No government should be blamed for people flouting the rules, until we all do so we wont get out of this situation quickly; again this is not the government’s fault or failure.

Medical scientists for the government do know what they are talking about and are not advising lockdowns for fun.

It’s to help suppress this dreadful disease and save lives and our NHS.

Again people who choose to ignore the medical science, could be prolonging the situation.

In regards to patients lying in hospital corridors awaiting treatment and lack of beds, this also happened when Labour was in power years ago to a member of my family.

I am extremely grateful to the NHS and all staff and it was wonderful to read many retired GPs and nurses came forward and offered their help and service in getting as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible.

Hopefully all this hard teamwork, from such dedicated people, will enable us all to move on and try to have some normality in our lives, from what has been a testing and dreadful year for everyone worldwide.
