New move to save a precious resource

-

Water company bosses in Sunderland are launching a new bid to get people to save the ‘precious’ resource.

Northumbrian Water has launched a brand-new initiative for schools – and parents supporting homeschooling – in order to educate thousands of primary pupils about the importance of water.

The water company is working with leading education agency, Hopscotch Consulting, to develop

The Ripple Effect to change the way children think and feel about water.

The free online programme will make young people aware of how precious water is – using interactive games, videos and activities.

The project is one of the many steps that Northumbrian Water is taking to future-proof its resources and raise awareness of its ambitious environmental goals.

Tim Wagstaff, lead water efficiency manager, at Northumbrian Water, said: "The Ripple Effect will invite school communities to think hard about the way they use water. Children now care more about how they treat the environment and, by making small changes to the way we use water we can protect our precious water supplies.

"It is really important that we properly educate the next generation so that we can create positive change for the future.”

He added: "We use water for everything and it's important we value it and not take it for granted.

"On average, people use around 150 litres of water a day – and it has almost doubled in 60 years.
