Will airshow take off once again this summer?

-

For the first time in 32 years, Sunderland Airshow was grounded due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 – but will it be going ahead in 2021?

With the Government’s having unveiled it’ s roadmap to easing lockdown restrictions, it could potentially mean big events may be able to go ahead by the summer months.

Sunderland Airshow is scheduled to take place from July 23 to July 25 later this year, but organisers are yet to confirm if the event will go ahead.

Hundreds of thousands of spectators usually attend the summer event, with aerial displays by the RAF’ sR ed Arrow steam among regular highlights.

Linda Williams, Cabinet Member for Vibrant City, told the Echo: “We are currently working through the roadmap and its implications for all City Council events in Sunderland this year.”

It is estimated about 400,000 turned out for 2019’s edition of the Airshow, pumping more than £5million into the Wearside economy.

Have any mass events in the UK confirmed they will be going ahead?

Earlier this week, organisers of Reading and Leeds Festival, which is due to take place at the end of August, appeared to confirm that this year’ s event will be going ahead as planned

In January, Glastonbury, which was due to celebrate it’s 50 th birthday in June 2020, has been postponed for another year.

The Government’s fourstep plan has outlined when which elements of society will reopen.

However, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said there must be at least five weeks between each step and if the analysis of the data requires a delay for one step – all future steps will be delayed.
