Boldon CA among 12 clubs to apply for promotion to Northern League

-

Wearside League leaders Boldon CA have confirmed they have applied to join the Ebac Northern League.

After the Football Association confirmed that the 2020/21 campaign was being brought to a premature end, David Crumbie’s side sat 15 points clear at the top of the table after winning 13 of their 14 league games so far this season.

However, with Covid-19 continuing to disrupt the season, there were major doubts over whether the remaining fixtures will be played before the Football Association’s decision.

Despite that uncertainty, Boldon are one of 12 North East clubs from step seven of thenon-leaguepyramidtosubmit an application to join the NorthernLeague’ssecondtier.

Boldon manager David Crumbie said: “It was always the intention to apply for the Northern League as we have excellent facilities.

“We started the season really well, and that was all down to the hard work and commitment the players and staff put in.

"We were still hoping something could happen in terms of getting back playing first and foremost.

“Thisclubhasneverplayed in the Northern League so if we can get there it would be an excellent achievement for all involved.”

Boldon’s Wearside League rivals Chester-le-Street United and Darlington Town have submitted new applications for next season and Gateshead Leam Rangers, Horden CW, Richmond Town and Wolviston have all rolled over their applications from last year.

AFC Killingworth, Blyth Town and Newcastle Blue Star have applied, and North Riding Football League duo Boro Rangers and Redcar Town complete the North East’s compliment of applicants for promotion.

*Fleetwood and Charlton have each been fined £2,500 after admitting a charge of failing to control their players following an incident in their Sky Bet League One clash last weekend.

The incident occurred during the final quarter of the 1-1 draw at Highbury Stadium and saw two players from each side receive yellow cards.

A tweet from the FA Spokesperson account read: “Fleetwood and Charlton have both been fined £2,500 after admitting a charge for a breach of FA Rule E20 and accepting the standard penalty.”
