Birthday joy for inspirational Chanel

-

Seaham schoolgirl Chanel Murrish has been through more than most in her seven years. In fact, she went through more than most in her first few hours of life.

As her parents reveal today, the youngster was rushed to surgery for a life saving operation within minutes of being born!

Since then, Chanel has undergone 10 surgeries, suffered a stroke and been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. And in the future she is likely to need a heart transplant.

It’s little wonder that her family is cherishing every milestone in Chanel’s life … and that includes her seventh birthday.

Despite Chanel’s health issues, the family has worked hard to help others facing similar challenges by raising funds for charity and forming a support network of parents and youngsters. As mum Faye tells us today, every milestone is a moment to cherish and celebrate.

She said: "Her milestones just make me remember about everything that’s happened in the past and makes us really celebrate, because it feels more precious, but we also think about all those children we’ve seen in hospital as well.”

We are delighted and honoured to share Chanel’s story and highlight the fantastic efforts of the Murrish family.

We have all been hit by the restrictions of lockdown, but for many they add an extra burden on an already challenging situation.

But to hear how the Murrish family has battled through is as heartwarming as it is inspiring. Well done.
