Anonymity guaranteed for crime information

-

A crime-fighting charity is calling on people to help police their local area – with a guarantee of total anonymity.

Crimestoppers has launched a campaign to highlight the unique service which guarantees anonymity to everyone who contacts them to pass on information about crime.

Drug dealing, money landing, burglary and domestic violence are just some of the crime it says people can help combat in their local area.

The independent charity has been offering people an alternative when it comes to reporting crime since the late 1980s and has always kept its promise of anonymity.

Ruth McNee, North East regional manager at the charity, said: “People sometimes know something about a crime, or have a suspicion, about whether a property nearby is being used as a cannabis farm, or they think a neighbour or friend is suffering from domestic abuse.

"But, for many different reasons, they might not want to contact the police.

“I want everyone to remember they can pass on their information to us and no one will ever know.

"We guarantee their anonymity 100%. No one needs to think that there is nothing they can do, that they just have to live with knowledge of a crime.

"They do have another option, and that is to contact Crimestoppers.”

The charity can be contacted online via an untraceable form at www. crimestoppers-uk.org, or by calling the 24-hour contact centre on Freephone 0800 555 111.

The number will not show up on any phone bill and computer IP addresses are never traced.
