Inquests have been opened and adjourned into the death of 63-year-old twins after their bodies were found inside a Sunderland flat.

Short hearings were held for James Davis, of Sefton Square in Springwell, followed by one for his brother Eric Davis, of Springwell Road, at Sunderland Coroner’s Court, based at the city’s civic centre.

They heard the pair had died of unnatural causes, with inquiries continuing and results of postmortem examinations pending.

They were found inside an upstairs flat in Springwell Road on the afternoon of Thursday, February 25.

Northumbria Police had been called to the address following a report of concern for two men and said they were treating the deaths as “unexplained” but said officers did not believe any third party was involved.
