Capcom’s double treat for gamers

- Damien Lucas

Just over five years ago, Street Fighter V was released to fighting game fans across the world. Since then, the game has continued to grow and evolve into the action-packed powerhouse it is today. And now there is a real treat for fans as Capcom drops the ‘historic’ fifth and final season of this gaming giant.

SFV Season V sees new character Dan Hibiki and free content for all PlayStation®4 and Steam players. This includes a new “V-Shift” battle mechanic, new training stage, and an updated battle balance for all playable characters.

Dan returns in style with his trademark taunts and self-proclaimed “Master of Saikyo” fighting techniques. A mainstay from the Street Fighter Alpha series and last appearing in Street Fighter IV, Dan is a training partner of Ryu and Ken.

Dan can be added to Street Fighter V rosters now with the Season 5 Character Pass or the Season 5 Premium Pass. He can also be acquired separately. The free update sees the powerful “V-Shift” battle mechanic give players all-new defensive options and strategies.

Costing just one bar of V-Gauge, when timed correctly, V-Shift allows players to execute a fully invincible backdash that slows down time for a short period, helping fighters better plan their counter attacks. In addition, all players can now acquire a new training stage called “The Grid Alternative” for free, as well as an updated battle balance for all playable characters, adding even more gameplay depth and enhancements to the game’s combat system.

The rest of Season 5 will see four more characters join the fight with Rose coming in Spring 2021, Oro (Summer 2021), Akira (Summer 2021), and a fifth and final unannounced character later this year. In total, 26 new costumes and two new stages are also being planned for Season 5, including a Rose stage (Spring 2021) and Akira stage (Summer 2021).

As if that was not enough Capcom have spoiled gamers with the release of Capcom Arcade Stadium, which brings 32 classics to Nintendo Switch including Strider and Ghouls n Ghosts.

All 32 arcade classics included in Capcom Arcade Stadium are now available for digital download from Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. There are three different packs of 10 games that each highlight a different era of Capcom arcade brilliance. The collection also includes the free-to-download 1943 – The Battle of Midway – and the separate add-on title, Ghosts ‘n Goblins. Retro fans can select specific packs or purchase an allin-one option containing the 32 games together.

Gamers can now access ‘80s classics like BIONIC COMMANDO and STRIDER and ‘90s favorites like SUPER STREET FIGHTER II TURBO. Ghosts ‘n Goblins add will be available as an add-on game. There is also the ‘all-in pack’ which – rather unsurprisingly – comprises all 32 games.

If like me, you’ve been bored during the big gaming lull in this first quarter of 2021, then Capcom is about to bring some much-needed excitement to your living rooms.
