Man to face charges over A19 death crash
A man is to appear in court to face the allegation of causing death by dangerous driving following the death of a Sunderland dad in an A19 collision.
Richard Gray Jordan, known as Richie, died of injuries he sustained when the white Mercedes car he was a passenger in was involved in a crash with a black Vauxhall Corsa on the southbound carriageway of the route.
The collision happened three miles south of the A690 DurhamRoadjunctionshortly after1.45amonAugust4,2019.
During a pre-inquest review hearing held at Sunderland Civic Centre yesterday, assistant senior coroner Karin Welsh led an update into proceedings, which was heard byRichie’sfamily,includinghis devoted partner Carol King.
She explained police inquiries had been carried out and information had since beenpassedtotheCrownProsecution Service, which has led to the preparation of charges relating to the incident.
As court proceedings and their conclusion are outstanding, the inquest for the 33-year-old dad-of-two from Grangetown was adjourned to a future date.
Northumbria Police has sinceconfirmedamanwillface twochargesinconnectionwith the A19 incident.
A force spokesperson said: “A 42-year-old man has been servedwithapostalrequisition to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside to answer
charges of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
“Heisduetoappearincourt on May 6.”
Richie had played for Sunderland RCA, Ryhope CW and Grangetown Florists over the years, with his death leading to a fund-raising campaign for a bench in his memory and to also support his loved ones following his tragic loss.
Among the tributes to the dad, who also left parents Veronica and Mike and sister Olivia, Ryhope CW said: “All at Ryhope CW are deeply saddened&shockedtohearabout the passing of Richie Jordan.”
