Your opinion on Palace reaction

Following Tuesday’s statement from Buckingham Palace in response to the backlash from the Harry and Meghan revelations, Echo readers mainly say racism needs to be openly investigated.

The Queen has sought to draw a line under damaging racism claims made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, saying that issues will be dealt with “privately” by the Royal Family.

We asked Echo readers what they thought of the Buckingham Palace response to the various claims made in the TV interview in the US with chat show host Oprah Winfrey.

Kimberley Wilson: I am proud of the Queen for acknowledgement of the accusations and saying that it will be dealt with privately within the family, and so it should be, and hopefully they can sort this sorry mess out and build bridges. I am also as a mother and grandmother proud of both Harry and Megan for taking care of each other and having the courage to speak out, your mother would be proud looking down on yous.

Carol Parks: To be honest, there are concerns with both parties, I just think Harry and Meghan have opened a big can of worms and lots of questions still need to be answered with both parties, but you know the royal family, for me, still haven’t learned from past experiences and in all honesty all this will be brushed 'under the carpet'.

Billy Lancaster: Racism is so wrong, don’t matter who your family is.

Natalie McAskell: I don't think dealing with it privately is acceptable. Especially not when majority of the Commonwealth members are black. I think it should be done extremely publicly! Graham Robinson: Only way this is going to be sorted is to name the alleged perpetrator.

Steve Taylor: It's to easy to pull out the race card. If it's true it is wrong, but everyone's a victim.

Marc Hope: Should have respected her wish for a private life and not commented.

Ron Whan: The “race comments” were strategically placed at the 40 minute mark when many TV viewers of a two-hour long show are most likely to change the channel.

Ellie Beattie: Quote: "would be addressed by the family privately". In other words it will be hushed up and they will close ranks.
