Tough stance on city crime is welcomed

-

The fearsome haul of weapons we picture today brings into sharp focus the dangers our police face on the streets of our community.

Machetes, axes, an air rifle and crossbow are among the deadly arsenal seized by officers in targeted raids last week.

The haul is terrifying and throws yet more light on the violent intentions of drug dealers and other criminals in our community.

In the raids, dubbed Operation Sentinel, a substantial amount of drugs worth £12,000 was also uncovered and two men arrested.

Our streets are safer today because of the actions of these officers who are doing a great job in tracking down offenders.

Detective Chief Inspector Sean Mcguigan, of Northumbria Police, said: “We will continue to detect and disrupt criminal activity across our communities and these seizures will inevitably provide a significant dent in the pockets of those involved.

“We make no apology for our robust stance on serious and violent crime, and hope this offers reassurance to the community.

“The net is tightening and we will continue to use every tactic at our disposal to seize illicit items and take robust action against those involved in serious and organised crime.”

We are told the police make no apologies for their robust stance on criminality, and nor should they.

Drugs are the scourge of our community and, given the weaponry employed by the criminal fraternity, this robust response is exactly what a thankful public want and expect. Long may it continue.
