Vaccine success for city
Nearly two fifths of people in Sunderland have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, new figures reveal.
NHS data shows 98,853 people had received a vaccine jab by March 7 – equating to 43% of those aged 16 and over, according to the latestpopulationestimates fromtheOfficeforNational Statistics.
Of those vaccinated, 64,409wereaged60orover – 88% of the age group. It means 34,444 people aged between 16 and 59 have received a first dose.
Areas with the highest coverage are Herrington & Doxford,with56.4%ofpeople aged 16 and over given their first dose, Hall Farm (51.3%)andHillView&Tunstall (50.9%)
Areas with the lowest coverage are Sunderland Central & Deptford (25.7%) Millfield (32.6%) and Concord and Sulgrave (36.2%)
Council bosses are warning pedestrians about a planned footpath closure in Washington.
Sunderland City Council have given notice that it plans to close the footpath linking Glengarvan Close and Ayton Road, Lambton, Washington, for up to two weeks from April 12.
The closure will affect the entire length of the footpath and is being implemented to allow for cable replacement work to take place in the area.
The order, under the terms the Road Traffic Act, temporarily prohibits all pedestrians from using the footpath for the duration of the work.
The order says an alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
