Work starts on £23m housing development
Building work on a 115-home development in Sunderland has begun.
The project is part of a £23million investment by housebuilder Story Homes at the Potters Hill estate near Doxford business park.
The development will be known as The Birches and will be made up of three, four and five-bedroom houses.
Showhomes are expected to be open by the autumn.
The Birches estate will be next door to the 160-home development built by Miller Homes. In total more than 700 new homes are set to be built across the Potters Hill site by various developers in different stages.
Allan Thompson, managing director for Story Homes in the North East, said: “We are delighted that work is under way at The Birches and are looking forward to seeing the first set of homes rise from the ground over the coming months.
“Story Homes has a reputation for being a housebuilder with community and sustainability at its heart and we will continue to build on these foundations as we expand our presence in Sunderland, by creating jobs for local people, helping preserve and enhance local greenspace and supporting local suppliers whenever possible.”
The investment is part of a wider £65 million programme of developments that will see 450 family homes built in Sunderland over the next few years.
Cllr Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, said :“Establishing Sunderland as desirable destination to live, work and play is central to our vision for the future of the city and the development of highquality, family homes such as the residential scheme sat Potter’s Hill are critical to bringing this vision to life.”
