Steps to tackle fly-tipping have been agreed by Sunderland City Council – despite opposition claims that plans had been “watered down” by council chiefs.

Kirsty Dickson: The solution is more simple than spending £315 million on pointless CCTV and posters. Re-instate weekly bin collections and free bulky item collections. Remove the limit on how many times you can visit the recycling centres. Too many rules. People want to dispose of their rubbish responsibly but can't because of the people at the top making ridiculous decisions.

Debbie Lloyd: Kirsty Dickson, I totally agree .... however, I'd never dump my junk in a field or back lane no matter how frustrating the current system is.

Kirsty Dickson: Neither would I.

Steve Leithes: Need to remove stupid appointment system.

Glenda Hall: I think the appointment system works well but probably reduces the actual number of visits people can make without it as quiet times cannot be accessed.

Tanya Alderson: We definitely need weekly bin collections again my green and blue bin are full within a week.

Kirsty Dickson: Mine too. Sick of having to leave extra black bags out.

David Almond: The biggest tip is the town centre I’ve never seen so many rats roaming around or are they the so called unfortunate that suckle the system dry

Lynn Appleby: The new rules are that you can only go to the tip 5 times a month . Why ? Before the new system came in you could go as many times as you wanted ..More money in April for a worse service !

Kathy Stewart: There needs to be more tips easily accessible to people.

Debbie Lloyd: The current waste centre isn't adequate for the population of Sunderland. Before lockdown the queue was often blocking the roundabout and you could be sat for ages. During lockdown, having to book a slot is better but that was prior to the spring/summer when peak usage of the tip happens. It horrifies me that people flytip with no regard for the city they live in.
