Ink dries on tattoo studio proposal

-

Plans for a new tattoo studio in Sunderland city centre have been given the green light.

Earlier this year, Sunderland City Council’s planning department received an application for 20 Waterloo Place, near the central railway station.

This included permission to use the first floor office space above business City Vapours as a tattoo studio.

Following consultation, Sunderland City Council’s planning department approved the application.

In a report, planning officers said the application would “ensure the continued occupation of this unit” and was “acceptable in principle.”

The decision notice reads: “There are no residential properties within the immediate vicinity of the site to be affected by the proposal.

“The use of the upper floor of the unit as a tattoo studio within this busy city centre location would be considered to be appropriate, it would not be considered that the proposal would create excessive noise or disturbance.

“The proposal would not be considered to negatively impact the amenity of neighbouring dwellings or visual amenity of the host dwelling and wider street scene.”

The report adds: “Although no parking provision is proposed, the site is located within the city centre and very accessible to public transport services including rail, metro and buses as well as off street and on street parking facilities.

“Taking this into account, and the fact that the existing retail unit has no parking provision, the transportation development team has offered no objections and the proposal is acceptable from a highway safety point of view.”
