Asda announces 300 new jobs at centre

-

Supermarket giant Asda has revealed that 300 jobs will be created in Washington in order to support the continued growth of George.com

The new roles will be based at Asda’s North East clothing depot at Staithes Road in Pattinson Industrial Estate, Washington.

The depot is one of three fulfilment centres in the North East and it is currently being used to fulfil George’s in-store stock for across the region.

Asda is looking for warehouse operatives to pick and pack items to help the retailer reach the projected volume increases from George.com, with the website expanding to support online orders from April.

Asda Senior Director People, Supply Chain & Asda Logistics Services, Mickey Greenhalgh has said the extra staff will be needed as the company are set to go through a “clothing peak and back to school events”.

Ms Greenhalgh commented: “Our distribution centres in Washington have been an essential part of our network for the past 20 years, helping us serve our customers in the local area. “As online shopping continues to grow we are looking for more team-orientated colleagues to help us as we start to fulfil George.com orders, with volumes set to increase week by week as we go through the clothing peak and back to school events.”

Successful applicants will be entitled to 10% off their Asda shopping, incentive schemes, a pension scheme, bonus scheme and discounts across a range of services and activities, from airport parking to theme parks and cinemas.
