Obey the rules and enjoy a happy Easter

-

How fantastic would it be if people could put the ‘good’ back into Good Friday and keep that up throughout the whole of the Easter weekend?

We think everyone would love to see the hot weather continue over the next few days, but they could do without the issues that have arisen this week.

As we reveal today, the sea of rubbish left in the field between Seaburn and South Bents has caused huge upset in the community.

Retired senior police officer Michael Hartnack, who spotted the piles of waste strewn all over, described the scene as an “absolute disgusting mess.” He isn’t wrong.

The warm weather and relaxed Covid rules have unfortunately brought with them, in some high profile incidents, a disturbingly lax attitude to the environment and the health of the local community. This can’t be allowed to continue.

Fortunately, the vast majority of people appreciate the importance of these baby steps towards the lifting of lockdown and behave responsibly.

But as we head into the Easter weekend, it’s worth reminding everyone of those responsibilities:

Avoid the most crowded places, exercise caution at all times, obey social distancing rules and pick up after yourself.

This pandemic is far from over and if we are all serious about helping to lift lockdown we need to follow the rules the letter. No exceptions.

Good behaviour on Good Friday and beyond is quite simply for the good of everyone.
